Groove Tube
The Groove Tubes GT-12AT7 preamp tube is manufactured to the highest quality JAN spec. NOS, made in USA for extremely long life. Used widely in most U.S.-made amps and, in particular, Fender amps. Fender amps with reverb use 2 - 12AT7s one for the reverb drive stage, and one as a phase inverter to drive the push/pull output stage. The makeup of the 12AT7 is very similar to the 12AX7 and it can be substituted for a 12AX7 in a pinch. Some players prefer the 12AT7 in the driver stage of a Marshall for a cleaner, brighter tone. (The driver or phase inverter is the 12AX7 located nearest the power tubes.) The 12AT7 is rarely used in a tone-generating stage, but rather in function stages, so the Groove Tubes GT-12AT7 is selected for durability.

Groove Tube
The Groove Tubes GT-12AU7 preamp tube is based on a design from the Ei factory in the former Yugoslavia. The GT-12AU7 is an excellent quality large-plate European-made driver tube, styled after the famous Telefunken line of dual triodes. The usual application for a 12AU7 tube is as the phase inverter that drives the power tubes. These are very well matched, and so are highly recommended for Ampeg SVT's and other amps using this tube as a phase inverter. Also commonly used as phase inverters in McIntosh Hi-Fi amps, some Ampeg amps, and will yield the most clean headroom in many amps. In the latest Fender Pro Series amps such as the Pro Reverb, Concert, and Twin, this tube in V2 (or a 12AY7), will drop the gain of the gain channel where some feel the tone is of a less intense or "buzzy" character. This will then allow a much wider range in the sweep of the volume and gain controls of this channel.

GT-6550-C Duet A softer version of the older USA 6550A, with a nice distortion character. This tube has a distortion that is between a 6L6GC and a 6550A. In older Marshall's that have 6550's, this tube will give you more compression and distortion at lower levels than the other 6550 offerings. This tube is terrific in Class A amps such as the GT Solo Single when you want to have a lot of output for smaller live venues. Many people prefer these in some Marshall amps where more clean headroom and output is desired.
